One piece of report that was monumental in its recognition of crimes committed by the Australian government was titled Bringing Them Home Report; was presented to parliament on 26 May 1997 (Stolen Generations). This report outlined the cruel, harsh and often violent environments to which children from Child Removal Campaigns (Stolen Generations) were exposed. He also revealed that the real reason the government was removing children was because of racial assumptions and they were attempting to “breed” an entire race (Stolen Generations). Because of the Bringing Them Home Report, the Australian government was forced to acknowledge what it had done to Aboriginal people. However, the current prime minister, around the time the report was published, refused to apologize because he believed that “the current generation should not be responsible for the mistakes of the past” (Stolen Generations). This mentality was met with strong objection from activists, and with growing awareness, an official apology was issued by the Australian government in 2007 (Stolen Generations). Aboriginal Australians have faced terrible trials over the past century, and their suffering has changed a continent forever.
