His experiences show all nine symptoms of inattention and seven out of nine symptoms of hyperactive/impulsive. In both cases, only six symptoms need to be present for a diagnosis. The only two symptoms of Hyperactive/Impulsive that he has not yet shown are: g) he doesn't give answers and h) he has no difficulty waiting his turn. The symptoms he manifests appeared before the age of twelve, continued for more than six months and are present both in the school environment and at home. Cyrus also meets the diagnostic criteria for Specific Learning Disability. Has difficulty learning concepts and applying academic skills. He continually shows signs of four of the six symptoms of Specific Learning Disability. Has spelling problems, problems with grammar/punctuation/paragraph organization, and has difficulty with all forms of math. Only one symptom lasting 6 months or more is needed for a diagnosis of Specific Learning Disability. On report cards, he was shown to be significantly below average grades in all of the above categories. He shows no symptoms related to any other disorders besides these two and these criteria best fit his circumstances. To properly diagnose Cyrus, the multiaxial system must be used to address any other issues contributing to his distress. Axis one is that Cyrus has attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder
