Have you ever thought about who you would consider the greatest athlete in the world? Well, many people around the world have heard of or would consider a man named Jim Thorpe. Jim Thorpe was like a man on a completely different level than any athlete of his time. Jim Thorpe is the greatest athlete of the twentieth century and will always be remembered that way. Jim Thorpe had a very hard life. It started from the day he was born to the day he died. Jim was born on an Indian reservation in Prague, Oklahoma. The year was 1888, on May 28, this phenomenal athlete was born. But what most people don't know is that Jim had a twin brother. His twin brother's name was Charlie Thorpe. His parents had Indian ancestry, but were part European and Native American. His mother's name was Hiram Thorpe and his father's name was Charlotte Vieux (Biography.com). Now, as a child, Jim would have had a total of ten siblings, but six of them died during childbirth, so he was left with four. One thing his family was very proud of was that they were related to the great warrior chief called Black Hawk of the Sack and Fox Tribe ("Jim Thorpe one of the greatest athletes of all time"). Now, the original tribe came from lands nearby and in Michigan. The government moved the tribe to a reservation just like many other Indian tribes. Now the name of the chief of the Sack and Fox Indian tribe was Black Hawk. One of the reasons he and his family were very proud of this Indian chief that many people had never heard of was that Black Hawk tried to fight the government and began to succeed, but the government's weapons and army began to take over and defeat their tribe and the attempt failed. But throughout his shorter and more memorable life. One thing that people completely overlook is the problems he had with racism and segregation, especially in the early part of his life, but he overcame all the obstacles and was on top for a long time. Jim was an incredible athlete and simply a great person. . He silenced many racist people and also set many records at the same time. He was given respect, he earned it through everything he did throughout his life. He is the greatest athlete who ever lived and may be the greatest athlete who will ever live.
