Topic > My Educational Philosophy: My Educational Philosophy

Ever since I was young, I wanted to be a teacher. Throughout my education I had some amazing teachers who inspired me to one day become a teacher. Teaching is not just a job. Teachers transform their students into independent, self-sufficient members of society. Teachers pass on knowledge to their students to be successful in everyday life. I believe teachers should play multiple roles, not just one. Teachers should be the motivator, facilitator, challenger, and supporter in their students' lives. Without teachers or some form of education, ignorance would reign in the world. Every teacher has their own personal opinions about teaching, how students learn, classroom goals, and professional development. When I think about my future as a teacher there are many questions that come to mind. How do I plan to teach when I have my first class? What content or topics will I focus on? What teaching strategies will I use to help my students learn? How will I relate to my students? Many teachers have educational philosophies that guide them in the classroom. Philosophy is a set of principles that we choose to live by, although we often think about them consciously. A philosophy is a statement about the beliefs and ideals that underlie your thinking. After taking numerous surveys of educational philosophies to see what my philosophy would be, the results showed that many of the philosophies listed best fit my thoughts on education. When I considered what my educational philosophy would be, I did a little research and chose progressivism. Progressivism is an educational philosophy that emphasizes real-world problem solving and individual development. The progressivism based curriculum is built around individual experience… middle of the paper… to no avail, they will most likely receive low grades and may eventually drop out of school. I believe every teacher should strive to make a positive difference in every student's life. Every teacher should make it a personal goal to incorporate fun and interesting activities into their lesson plans for each subject. I believe that with the use of progressivism philosophy in classrooms, students will experience a process of ongoing growth, not just preparation for adulthood. The educational content should be linked to what the student already knows so that the student can build on their prior knowledge. Teachers must instill the right education and skills in their students for them to be successful. Students are the future of our society. They are our future leaders, teachers, doctors, soldiers and inventors. They will determine what the future holds for us.
