The mind has incredible power. We see this as we go about our daily activities, constantly displaying the wonders of logic, thinking, memory, and creativity. Yet, can the mind be more powerful than we know? Is it possible to reduce or even eliminate pain, illness and disease using the natural powers it possesses? Can the mind heal? Many of our best researchers and scientists have explored this question, and although the exact answer still eludes us, the facts seem to demonstrate that the mind has the power to both assist in healing and, conversely, also cause "illness." . Two examples of healing the mind and body are hypnotherapy and meditation. There are others like ionization, which focuses on positive rather than negative thinking. But first I will describe the reasoning behind the mind-body connection. Psychoneuroimmunology is the name of the study of the min-body connection, PNI for short. PNI has been around for around 20 years and has revolutionized the way we look at health and wellbeing. There was a point in human existence where the connection between the mind and body was taken for granted. A couple of centuries ago, science had come to understand the concept of a “mechanical universe”. Sir Newton's laws and the science of physics had begun to infiltrate the science of medicine. If the universe followed mechanical laws, so could the body. To prove this theory, scientists had to cut open a body to observe how it worked. The Church was very adamant that the body was the temple of the soul and could never be desecrated. After much negotiation and several smoke-filled discussions in the back room, an agreement was reached. The Church would retain its jurisdiction over the "mind" because that is where the personality and soul "truly" reside and science could have the body, which is only a "machine for the mind" and at death would simply become an empty vessel . Compounding the rift, newer science has found that specific diseases can be "cured" through medicinal formulas or specific medications. This “magic bullet” mentality has spread throughout medicine and science. In reality, the body was a mechanical thing that responded to specific stimuli and could be counted on to respond the same way every time. Wonderful news, the body did not respond as expected. Science has tried to ignore or explain away this phenomenon by saying, “Oh, it's just the placebo effect,” or “It's spontaneous remission,” along with other innocuous terms that seem to diminish its importance. It is human nature when something is not understood to dismiss it, belittle it, or ignore it altogether. This quest to find answers to this recurring phenomenon is the basis of PNI, how the mind-body connection is established and how
