Topic > Comparing and contrasting three models of health - 1307

In this assignment I will discuss what it means for me to be healthy, I will discuss three models of health: biomedical, biosociological and holistic. I will compare the three models by discussing the positive and negative impacts they have on health and society. I will compare what health is to other organizations such as the NHS (National Health Service) and WHO (World Health Organization) applying them to a health model. I'll start by discussing what I believe being healthy is. For me, being healthy means eating a balanced diet, feeling physically well, mentally well, being well rested and feeling happy. I try to follow a balanced diet while minimizing sugar, this is because I suffer from migraines if I consume a high amount of sugar. This then impacts my daily life as I am unable to do many activities on days when I suffer from migraines. Being healthy and feeling physically well means that that day I am healthy enough to go and enjoy my horses, to be able to ride them and to be able to compete with them. A few years ago I broke my ankle in two places after a driving accident and if I drive longer than usual, the next day my ankle will hurt and prevent me from driving that day, also due to the migraines I suffer from occasionally affect my ability to drive. Being able to go and ride my horses is something I enjoy, which I believe is a big part of making me feel healthy as I feel it also keeps me mentally well, as it's me time as it keeps me relaxed and happy. Having a balance in life, between work, rest and leisure, also makes me feel healthy. If I have had enough sleep for a night I am much more energetic, I like my job even though it can be full of stress and... middle of paper......use. In conclusion, I feel good This approach has important influencing factors and contributes equally to healthcare and maintaining the health of society. Without each of the three models of healthcare, healthcare providers would not function at today's standard, I believe this is because each model influences the other. The healthcare provided is governed not only by a medical approach but also by the personal opinion of the doctor, nurse or person providing the care. If a doctor believes in the holistic approach he might encourage patients to try holistic treatments, compared to a doctor who does not believe in the holistic approach who would not include holistic treatment in his patient's treatment program unless requested by the patient. This is starting to change as society becomes more aware and interested in health and the treatment options available to them.
