There are some parts of the medical practice that could benefit from computerization. As time goes on technology will help most types of work, for example office work (Department of Trade and Industry for example). The technology could be used in doctors' offices to computerize patient files and print prescriptions and certificates for things like vaccinations. The patients' medical records would contain their name and address, telephone number, date of birth, gender, allergies and illnesses. Plus, it will be faster for the doctor to access their files because they are all just a click of a mouse button away instead of a bunch of paper files in a big cabinet away. If you lost a file in your office, it would probably be difficult to find it again, whereas if you lost a file on a computer you could use the search utility in Microsoft Windows 95, 98 or 2000 (pressing the button and F at the same time) and the file would be found within seconds. On a computer you can automatically sort files alphabetically by any name, family doctor, date of birth, etc. However, in an office cabinet it would not be at all easy to insert and store files in some sort of alphabetical sequence. Currently the database is pen and paper based, which can be convenient but time consuming compared to a computer based database. Let's say you have a paper database. If one of your clients moves house or gets married, you would have to create an entirely new record because of the altered information. And let's say it was a family that changed residence, and then after you filed the new documents the parents got married. It would cause a lot of trouble and waste a lot of time, wouldn't it? The doctor would get annoyed looking through people's files and it would take them longer to get things done, which means fewer appointments every day. The dilemma is that I have to create a database to answer all these problems. I will create a database for the doctor's office so doctors can search and edit their patient files with the click of a button. The database will be able to find their medical records (allergies, etc.), their home address, home phone number, their allergies (if any) and their diseases (if any)).
