To be a superhero there are certain elements that someone must have to call themselves a superhero. Most superheroes have the characteristics of courage, morality, resilience and the most important superpowers or super-gadgets. One characteristic that all superheroes have is courage. Courage is a quality highly valued and admired by many people. Every superhero has something that encourages them to do what they are now. A great example of this is Batman. In the book Psychology of Superheroes the author states: "After the death of his parents, Bruce traveled the world, learning escape arts, illusions and martial arts..." (Robin S. Rosenberg and Jennifer Canzoneri. iBooks . page 284). After the death of his parents, Batman had to make the difficult decision of whether to become a hero or become the villain. He decided to rise above hatred and anger. He would make sure things like this never happened to anyone else again. Through sheer courage and determination, he was able to conquer many of his fears and then continue to fight them. Another example of courage is the Justice League of America: “Such a dangerous and frightening experience leads the heroes to affiliate with each other and appreciate each other, and to recognize the fact that it is the combination of group effort and individual powers that would make possible to make them unbeatable if they were to make the group official."
