Most people who visit Italy try to see all the famous sites we grew up with in our history books. Most visitors to Rome are happy to see the Vatican, St. Peter's Basilica or the Colosseum; Little do they know that there is so much more to see. While researching our trip to Rome, I discovered a part of St. Peter's Basilica that is rarely seen by most tourists. Through research, determination and good old American persuasion, this led to us getting tickets to the “Excavations” and an unforgettable experience. I was looking forward to visiting Rome, as I had grown up Catholic. My life has been filled with the importance of Rome and all the history surrounding the city. During my online research about Rome I was pleasantly surprised that in addition to the catacombs found under St. Peter's Basilica, there is another tour limited to only 125 visitors per day.
