CHAPTER 1INTRODUCTION1.1 NanotechnologyHistorical context of nanotechnology: (Feynman,1961; Drexler,2004; Ochekpe et al., 2009)Nanotechnology can be defined as technology on the scale of one billionth of a meter . Matter has unique properties with nanometer dimensions of 1-100 nanometers (nm). The large surface area to volume ratio is the key element exhibited by the nanomaterial and thus has led to a variety of manipulations, diversifications and useful applications. Modification of the host material as in layered double hydroxide offers the opportunity to intercalate the beneficial substance and release it at the defined location at the end of the process. Nanotechnology is commonly employed in several critical fields such as drug delivery (Li et al., 2004), environmental science (Kuang et al., 2010), catalysis engineering (He et al., 2013; Jinesh et al., 2010) and many other sectors. One of its important fields of application is agriculture (Campos et al., 2014; Hussein et al., 2002). Different types or...
