The 'Teacup Ballet' is one of the first and best works of art that Olive Cotton exhibited outside Australia. It was created in 1935, a silver gelatin photograph, 37.3cm x 29.6cm. Six identical teacups are precisely arranged, each having pointed triangular handles and slender bodies. Each teacup is placed on a circular saucer. In the center, in the background, two teacups are positioned diagonally to each other, with the handles facing in the same direction, on the left side. In the central area, three teacups are arranged in a diagonal line, parallel to the teacups in the background. This time the cup handles are all facing to the right. In the foreground, in the right corner, stands alone a tea cup, with the handle facing left, pushed a little further inwards than the others. A light filters into the background which illuminates the tea cups and shadows form. A curved line is also modeled that contrasts light with dark. The composer did not manipulate the image, other than altering the color. The composer who corrected the sepia color is clearly depicted...
