Parenting classes: useful or wasteful? Parenting is defined by two definitions. The first definition states that parenting is simply the raising of children. But is it possible to express “parenting” in such simple terms? Caring for a child is a daunting task for parents, both young and old, who all face similar challenges when it comes to raising children. Parents should have basic knowledge on how to take care of their children from the first steps until they grow up. Parenting courses offer just that. These lessons offer knowledge from caring for children of different ages to how to connect with them on an emotional level. All new parents should be required to attend basic parenting courses; such lessons would be beneficial to both parents and their children. The basics of parenting lessons can have a wide range. Each is essential for new parents and even second time parents. In "Parent Classes: Pros and Cons," the article explains that classes can range from basic baby care, such as diaper changing, breastfeeding, bathing, to emergency care and first aid . Other parenting courses focus on older children and their parents in terms of what to expect with development and behavior at each age. Parents could also learn how to manage stress before and after pregnancy, how to discipline and manage behavioral problems, how to raise healthy and generally happy children, and how to balance family with respect and responsibility (Parenting Classes-1). Generally, this type of information is not known to new parents, or even second-time parents. Some basic knowledge can help turn difficult situations and tasks into simple ones, such as bathing your child or how to handle discipline. Each different class contains the foundation... at the center of the card... it could be the key to brighter, better behaving generations. Work CitedDreyfus, Edward A. "Mandatory Parenting Classes."
