“First of all, let me state my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” In his inaugural address, Franklin Delano Roosevelt spoke these words to assure America that he would end the Depression. He no longer wanted Americans to be afraid of the failing economy and the unemployment that was making them suffer. He immediately wanted to win their trust and give them hope that their struggles would end soon. He not only made Americans believe that things could get better, he actually did. As soon as FDR took office, he got to work and began leading America out of the Depression within days of his election as president. From these early days of his presidency, through his twelfth year, Roosevelt never stopped working, and Americans knew it. He was the only president to be elected to three terms, which shows what an amazing president he truly was. He led America through a period of deep depression and a world war, and although he made some mistakes along the way, he earned the trust of Americans. He was an extraordinarily busy president who many say was born to play politics, so FDR is receiving a 4 out of 5 for his presidency. By the time Roosevelt was elected president and actually sworn in, America continued to suffer from the Depression and the economy only got worse. As soon as Roosevelt was finally in office, he immediately began creating policies and organizations to end the Depression, which became known as the New Deal. During the first hundred days of his presidency alone, Congress passed 15 major laws in an effort to end the Depression. One of the first problems Roosevelt faced during these first hundred days was the... medium of paper... model and working as hard as he did. Overall he was an extraordinary president who completely deserves a high rating of 4 out of 5. Works Cited Appleby, Joyce Oldham. "Roosevelt and the New Deal." The American vision.
