Many of my opponents argue that online dating can avoid trivial things in real life and makes it not only easier but also happier to communicate. However, in real life, online dating tends to lead to more breakups. According to research, “Separation and divorce rates for people who coupled online were much higher than for their offline compatriots, and most relationships founded online tended to end within a year after the survey.” (Web). The lack of a face-to-face meeting will cause potential instability in a relationship. Lovers rely on online chatting and sharing moments through the Internet to maintain the emotion, which is really fragile. This way of loving can never take the place of dating in real life. People experience an interested life together and all these memories will accumulate as time passes, which is the necessary foundation of a strong relationship. Furthermore, social networking has created a huge amount of opportunities for people to create love relationships by matching suitable ones. It is because people know that the number of members of the opposite sex is abundant, so many people will feel that it is not necessary for them to like the matched person so much. If you break up with someone online, you can simply reactivate your profile and you could have a date the next day, quickly and easily. This is the huge and dangerous flaw of online dating as some people will abuse it, becoming flirty players and being overly picky. Therefore, online dating is generally weak and transitory, which makes it difficult for us to work on it
