Imagine all the people who die in accidents such as car crashes, fires, falls and poisonings every year. If you add all this data up and then multiply that number by four, you get the number of people who die from smoking each year! Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. Every year more than 480,000 people die from smoking. This is just one of the many reasons why I believe cigarette smoking should be banned in public places. I will argue this point in three ways. First, I will argue that the health effects of smoking are so harmful that cigarettes should not be allowed in public areas. Next, I will argue that the negative effects go beyond just health, but also affect the money of those affected by smoking. Finally, I will argue that smoking should be banned because it is becoming the coolest thing to do in our culture. The health effects of smoking are so serious that there is no reason why they should be legal in public places. Smoking is very harmful to the smoker's health in more ways than one might think. Smoking affects almost every organ in the body and can cause cancer in most of them. Smoking can also cause many other terrible diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and respiratory diseases. Smoking also causes many different forms of cancer. Smoking causes damage to the bladder, blood (acute myeloid leukemia), cervix, colon and rectum (colon-rectum), esophagus, kidneys and ureter, larynx, liver, oropharynx ( includes parts of the throat, tongue, soft palate and tonsils), pancreatic cancer, stomach cancer, trachea cancer, bronchial cancer and lung cancer.
