Topic > Simple Solution to Climate Change - 1076

Global warming and cooling have occurred in a cycle that has lasted for millennia, however over the past thirty years the increase in energy and fuel use by humans has drastically changed this natural event (Juerg, 2007) . The main cause of this warming is the release of carbon dioxide resulting from the burning of fossil fuels. Carbon dioxide levels are 25% higher than in 1957 (UCS, 2013). This seemingly insignificant change has caused a myriad of negative effects. Species endangerment, sea level rise, and increased natural disasters are just a few examples of the changes caused by global warming (Juerg, 2007). Even though global climate change is a huge problem, there are many solutions proposed to solve or delay it. These theories range from creating a giant sun shield in space to the simple practice of “reduce, reuse, and recycle” (Gray, 2009). However, the most effective solution is to find different sources of fuel to power our daily lives. The earth needs renewable, effective and long-lasting fuels. Global warming can be slowed down through the use of renewable energy as it is versatile, clean, a good investment and can be easily deployed in different climates and environments. One of the most compelling arguments in favor of using renewable energy is how there are many forms of it. Nuclear energy, solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, hydropower, pumped energy, wave energy, geothermal energy, biomass and biogas are the best known renewable energy sources (Darvill, 2013). This broad selection of fuels supports the idea that renewable fuels could one day power the entire planet. All energy sources have different niches and advantages.
