Unsuccessful Peacekeeping Operations Around the WorldThe United Nations is a global organization founded in 1945 to ensure security, international peace and security. This organization promotes international peace and security when armed conflicts arise. Their sole mission is to create safe foundations to build a stable environment for those in need. Their tasks are to promote social progress, better living standards and human rights. However, most UN operations have not been as successful as expected and have failed to resolve conflicts in several countries. Some of these conflicts have led to gruesome massacres. I will discuss the UN's unsuccessful peacekeeping operations. The failures of UN peacekeeping operations have spiraled out of control in countries such as Rwanda, Somalia and Bosnia. UN peacekeeping operations have failed to protect people during global crime, simply because they have failed to fulfill their duties. Many of the UN peacekeepers have agreed to terms that involve aiding countries in need, creating better living standards and promoting human rights. Unfortunately, they failed to meet their terms, thus losing the respect of nations around the world. Sri Lanka is a prime example of how the United Nations does not keep its promises. From 1983 to 2008, Sri Lanka faced one of its longest civil wars. This civil war forced many immigrants and Sri Lankans to flee. Independent experts have called on the UN Human Rights Councils to investigate war crime allegations, so they can promote peace and simply end the war. But as the situation worsened, the United Nations made no attempt to intervene against civilians. Among the many do...... middle of paper ......n donating sweets or small sums of money and then claiming that the girls are prostitutes. Places such as Bosnia, Kosovo, Cambodia, Haiti and Mozambique have revealed shocking stories of repeated abuse and rape. Overall, the United Nations has not been successful in its peacekeeping operations, as it has lost control over many countries. In some situations, such as in Sri Lanka, the UN simply made no attempt to help the people of Sri Lanka, leaving them to die. From what I have gathered in this assignment, the UN simply talks to the media, telling us that everything will be fine and that it is up to the peacekeepers to stop this chaos. In most cases, nothing they say gets done.………………...This is why countries around the world have lost much of their respect for UN peacekeepers . Many soldiers associated with the UN are to blame.
