In my Killing a Bird Simultaneous book cover I added the following themes and elements to my book cover: a tree with a knot, tree roots, six geraniums, a snowman snow, fire, a mocking bird. On the back cover of the book I added: the black and white element, the scales and a man with his fist on top of the scales. A tree with a knot and its roots The tree with a knot is Boo Radley's attempt to form a friendship with the children, he places presents in the knot for the children to find. Boo Radley was robbed of his childhood, so he watches over the children, watching them have the childhood and freedom he never had. It's Boo Radley's way of connecting with everyday society. When Mr. Nathan fills it all up with concrete, he cuts Boo off from Jem and Scout and any other normality he had in his life. The roots of the tree represent when the roots of the tree spread and block the path, it symbolizes Boo Radley trying to reach the children. But, being interrupted by Mr. Nathan while filling the hole with cement. Six geraniums “Against the fence, in a row, stood six chipped enamel jars containing bright red geraniums, tenderly cared for as if they belonged to Miss Maudie Atkinson, Miss Maudie having deigned to allow a geranium on her premises. People said they were from Mayella Ewell". This suggests that Mayella wishes to be better than her surroundings, to create something bright in her boring world, to aspire to be something great. Everything in Mayella's life is "bad", her father sexually abuses her, she lives in a dump, her father spends his relief checks on alcohol instead of taking care of his children, she and her brothers all have different mothers Everything in her life is "bad" but... middle of the paper ...half of the page is colored black and the other white, the white side has titled scales representing the views of the time that "white people" are always right Due to the unfair trial of Tom Robison, a mockery the bird was killed. To conclude this analysis, a tree with a knot represents Boo Radley's friendship with the children, the roots of the tree symbolize Boo Radley trying to reach the children. Six geraniums represent Mayella Ewell's desire for beauty. The snowman represents that "black" and "white" people are the same. The fire represents the city uniting before the trial. The mocking bird represents the sin of killing someone's innocence. The black and white element represents the "white" and "black" people of the city. The scales and a man with his fist on top of the scales represent Atticus trying to rewrite the prejudice the law has against people of color.
