ABOUT UNETHICAL ADVERTISING Businesses are in the game to earn money and advertising is the most powerful weapon that helps to sell a particular product. An advertisement can be harmful and misleading, as well as useful and advantageous. Ethical advertising is a confusing concept, but in reality the main objectives of companies should be to avoid misleading their customers by creating incorrect expectations and to retain current customers. The main problem with advertising is that most of it is misleading. Advertisements create an unrealistic and sometimes irrelevant impression of a particular product. Unfortunately, consumers often become victims of their tricks. Advertising works best if it targets people who are likely to use the product. Therefore, many unethical things are done to place advertisements in some places. People don't know what they actually need, they wouldn't know what to buy. Due to these facts, to get consumers' attention, companies try all kinds of advertising tactics, even if they involve illegal and dirty tricks. One of the well-known illegal tricks is called “bait and switch”. This tactic mainly involves placing an advertisement for a particular item of enormous value. Then customers come into the store and can't find the item because it's no longer available. Even if they are so sad about what they lost, they automatically direct themselves towards a similar product which is not as good as the previous one, but most of the time they feel satisfied. These tactics not only affect adults, but they also affect children. There are a huge amount of ethical concerns about advertising that targets children. Children might get the wrong impression from a piece of paper. It should be limited everywhere, but in this capitalist world money talks, no one cares about children or spiritual things. Overall, government organizations should introduce adequate regulation in the advertising industry. The UK is a good model that brings order in a nice way by establishing regulations. People need to be aware of advertising, set their behaviors correctly and carefully, and need to be smart about their consumption. This is exactly how people should act against advertising and advertisers should be aware of what they are doing. They should analyze and check their project before releasing it. What is necessary and what is not really necessary should be balanced according to ethical standards. Unless they follow the rules, the government should step in and impose some restrictions .
