This leads to the formulation of certain survival procedures, the search for new technologies and the preparation for earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. To overcome the effects of earthquakes, scientists and engineers have designed earthquake-resistant infrastructure. This was created because common infrastructure collapses during earthquakes because it is heavy and cannot withstand seismic waves. The main cause of death during earthquakes is death from falling buildings. However, in earthquake-proof buildings the main concept is to make the building rigid, resistant and made of the lightest material possible, so that, in the event of a fall, individuals have the chance to survive. At the bottom of the earthquake-proof building there would be a sort of shock absorber, so that it can absorb seismic waves, reducing their impact. Then, the building will incorporate a core and sheer walls, to reduce the oscillatory movements of an earthquake. Along with this, the walls will have two steam beams for added safety. In developing countries, a similar type of design is used, but the building is made of cheaper, everyday objects. Another defense system used by humans to adapt to earthquakes and volcanoes are monitoring and warning systems. Monitoring and warning systems are usually controlled by local or national governments. In earthquake situations, sensors (which are distributed in earthquake-prone regions) send information to the warning center when a seismic wave is detected, there the information is analyzed. Subsequently, information from the warning center is immediately transmitted to citizens of the region alerting them to the expected intensity and arrival time of the earthquake via SMS or call. After that, people are advised to turn off all electrical appliances and follow the local earthquake
