New Orleans, Louisiana, a city best known for its tasty seafood, its French cuisine and the largest Mardi Gras celebration in the nation, also has a long history of innovation when deals with the topic of music. This can be demonstrated by looking at the creation of multiple musical genres, including jazz. In particular, Dixieland Jazz or New Orleans-style jazz took root in the city in the early 20th century. During this period, many artists began to implement this new musical style which ultimately stemmed from the roots of jazz. In this way, New Orleans became an incubator for an expansive and lit fuse in the music industry and laid the foundation for one of the greatest African American jazz musicians: Louis Armstrong. Through innovative improvisation, music and singing, Armstrong became the leading trumpeter and one of the most influential artists in the history of jazz. Louis Armstrong, better known as Sactchmo, which is short for "Satchel Mouth", was born on August 4, 1901 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The product of a servant and a textile worker, Armstrong grew up poor in a neighborhood known as "The Battlefield." Due to his family's lack of financial resources, Armstrong's mother, Mayann, was forced to participate in illegal acts such as prostitution to provide for him and his sister. Armstrong, in an effort to keep his mother off the streets, began working as a paper boy. Through this work, Louis began to explore different dance halls and clubs that he would encounter along his delivery route (Pops 39). As a result, Armstrong's musical experiences occurred very early in his life. As stated in Armstrong's memoir, Satchmo, Armstrong's first musical experience was when he felt... middle of paper... broad concert appeal because it mixes multiple bass instruments. Furthermore, I think it has great appeal in concerts too due to its simple lyrics that fans and audiences can easily learn. Armstrong's performance of the song further exemplifies the song's beauty through his impeccable trumpet solo, vocal solo, andscatting. In conclusion, the composition evoked a nostalgic feeling while listening to the song. I felt like I was transported back in time to the period in which the composition was created.
