Until the 1990s, Albania was a country led by a dictatorial regime, one of the most centralized and isolated among communist countries and one of the last countries to initiate a deep-rooted regime transformation to achieve radical democratization and new reforms. Considering its history, Albania began its transformation starting from the poorest economic condition, reaching the status of an emerging country candidate to join the European Community. Yet this fact has created division among the Albanian population and also among other European countries. In reality the growing question is: should Albania join the EU? I think that Albania should not, although some believe that it should be part of this community because it could grow economically, there would be more foreign investments and economic support from other countries and corruption would also decrease. However, there are other disadvantages why Albania should not join the EU. In fact, Albania is not economically prepared to face this change, due to the high level of corruption and organized crime and, Albania should meet the economic and legal conditions. People think that Albania should join the EU because corruption and bribery are now rampant in the country. decreased and this is an important point reached to be part of this community. However, although Albania has claimed to have used an anti-corruption policy since 2009 under the Berisha government, it has not yet reached the standards required by the European Commission. In fact, as reported in the book “Corruption in Albania” by Aiste Skardziute (2010), Albania's progress is stopped by the highest percentage of corruption and it is also expressed that the World Bank for the control of bribery has placed Albania in the 50 percent. .... half of the paper ......d by unemployment and is at low levels of competitiveness in the business environment. Before joining the EU, Albania needs to create a strong fiscal environment, reducing the high level of unemployment and public debt. To conclude, I think that Albania should not join the EU because it has not reached some standards required by the Union and also because it still has some problems to address. In fact, what is holding back Albania's entry into the EU is economic unpreparedness, the persistent presence of corruption and organized crime and the latter, if Albania enters the EU, will have to satisfy the economic and legal conditions established by the European Commission, partly losing its fiscal and political independence. Albania needs to solve some problems and generally improve its economic, legal and social conditions, before it starts to join the EU.
