Topic > The importance of rapid response - 1407

A communication process consisted of implementing internal staff services, including day, night and weekend shifts, so that communication was consistent and up to date. Many visual supports were provided, using chart boards and laminated postcards with guidelines for initiating a rapid response. Questions were answered based on current literature and concerns were forwarded to administration for clarification. In response to critical care nurses and a review of current literature on the use of APRNs, the suggestion was met with enthusiasm and encouragement. With the current availability of APRNs within the ICU during the day and night, assisting the current rapid response team with APRNs will benefit the team and patients by reducing delays in care and inducing appropriate measures to reduce any imminent critical issues.
