Computer system plays an important role in solving human problems in daily life. There are standard steps to develop an information system called System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). SDLC is the framework available to build a complete system. There are five phases in SDLC which are planning, analysis, design, coding, testing and maintenance (refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1). The first phase in SDLC is planning. In this phase the potential system development project is identified. The project manager summarizes all the strengths and weaknesses that can occur when using their professional skills (Hoffer, George, & Valacich, 2008). Subsequently, the business plan is defined and documented by the project manager in a formal format. According to Burch (1992), the business plan must be clear and the development of the system must follow the business objective. During this phase, the project is selected and decided based on the meeting of the interested parties with the project manager. The selected project is then started. “During initiation, one or more analysts are assigned to work with the client to establish work standards and communication procedures” (Hoffer, George, & Valacich, 2012, p. 116). At this stage, you obtain a lot of information to support project planning based on the determined project scope and identify project activities that arise from ongoing meetings with customers. Finally, before proceeding to the next step; The Baseline Project Plan (BPP) and Project Scope Statement (PSS) are documented based on information obtained from previous activities that tell all about the system (Hoffer, George, & Valacich, 2012). The second phase of the SDLC is analysis. The analysis is carried out to “gather information about what the system should do from as many resources as possible” (Hoffer, ...... middle of the document ......
