Topic > Compare and contrast high school to college

I like being a college student more than being a high school student. In my time in college, I have seen that students are given more freedom in college than in high school. Choices like note taking, environment, or class selection are some examples of how college is less restrictive than high school. With educational freedom and more control over my education, I find being a college student more enjoyable than being a high school student. In high school, the classes students take seem easy. They seem easy because when a person is in high school, they can simply ignore the effects. For example, if someone doesn't pay attention and does nothing for the entire class period, they can copy someone else's notes and still learn the material because they have that class five days a week. Another reason why high school classes feel easy is because a person can skip school/lesson, without being penalized, and most of the time the teacher will review material that the student missed. “High school is mandatory and free, while college is voluntary and expensive.” (Information for high school students) In contrast, in college, classes seem to be difficult. A college student cannot simply ignore a lecture. Well, he can do it, but he will suffer for it in the long run. For example, if someone happens to attend class but does not intend to pay attention to the lesson, he or she will suffer from not being attentive and will wish to pay attention because most of the time professors do not review any lecture or material before a test. Like in high school, a college student may copy another student's notes: it might be slightly helpful, but not as much as if he had been in class and paying attention. College classes are also difficult because a person can't really miss a class. To know what is happening and what homework will be assigned to him, a student must attend every class, if possible, because he does not have the same class five days a week. In college, it's two or three days a week and that's it. If someone misses a lesson, it is very difficult to make up for what they missed.
