Technology is the use of science in industry, engineering, to invent useful things or solve problems (Merriam-Webster.com, 2013). The ability to direct and control the flow of materials across national borders can be a difficult task; technology has helped alleviate the difficulty of this task and assist management in improving the flow of these materials. An example of how technology is improving is monitoring the whereabouts of marijuana plants and products to regulate and ensure that the products come from authorized sources. The use of RFID tags attached to each plant and package of processed marijuana helps the state monitor that the products are coming from licensed growers and distributors and not from a clandestine source. In this case the technology will help improve the logistical management of marijuana distribution at the state level. Imagine logistics trying to conduct this same operation globally, let's look at other examples of how technology can improve global logistics management. Businesses are trending towards using cloud computing to assist them in many aspects of their operations. Cloud computing is a pay-as-you-go or subscription service to the Internet (in real time), thus extending the use of a company's computing capabilities. Cloud computing technology allows companies to increase their computing capabilities and capabilities without ever investing in new infrastructure, training new staff, or licensing… middle of the paper… supply chains, real-time visibility, to applications that both you and I can use on our portable smartphones, technology will continue to change the way things are done within the global supply chain. “We are changing the world with technology,” Bill Gates.Works CitedDizikes.
