Before this assignment I had heard about LinkedIn many times but for some reason I had never created a profile. However, after being prompted to create a LinkedIn account, I now realize the vast potential it has to offer. For starters, it is one of the fastest growing social media platforms in the world. “The global LinkedIn network adds approximately one new member every second” (Eyres, 2009). Secondly, it gives people the opportunity to connect with professionals who may work in the same field as you or with people who have similar skills. Your profile can be viewed by virtually anyone, which is impossible to do with a traditional paper resume. For example, a person who viewed my profile works as a marketer in Ottawa, Canada. Simply put, this social media platform is a fantastic way to “get your name out there,” so to speak. After creating my profile I decided to join a group called Social Media Marketing. It's a very active group with over 800,000 members and it took me about a day to get accepted into the group. Question topics range widely from what impact social media has on marketing or the dos and don'ts of online job surveys, to name a few. A question that intrigued me to read; choose one word to describe your brand, I answered “innovative”. My comment was liked by James Scott, an Executive Project Manager at Cloud Technology. Simply commenting on these questions is a great way to generate awareness of your profile. Anyone who sees your comment may decide to view your profile which is the ultimate goal for using this website. This type of constant interaction, in my opinion, is LinkedIn's greatest strength. I found these group questions very interesting and definitely... half of the paper ......ist. Retrieved from http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/positively-media/200903/why-linkedin-worksConner, C.
