I chose to enter the field of social work to be able to help people and to do so I must remain committed to the client and the social work profession at times. Social work can be challenging, but I must not let the challenges I face change the commitment I have to the clients I serve. Additionally, I have a strong desire to be the most effective social worker possible and to do so I know I must be competent, continue to learn and keep up to date with changes that occur through research. Furthermore, I clearly understand the importance of client privacy and the right to confidentiality in the helping process. The client must feel that their information and situation will be protected at all times to ensure that trust is built in the helping relationship. However, customers need to be informed of situations where information needs to be shared to protect others and society as a whole. Finally, derogatory language is important to me because I have heard social workers use it when communicating about a client and I believe it is disrespectful not only to the client but to the entire social work profession. No matter the customer's situation or the choices they have made, the customer is still a valuable individual who deserves it
