Overfishing has become a big problem in recent years. Many fish species are lost due to this problem, as well as entire ecosystems. Not only are we losing many fish species, but we are losing a beneficial food source. Weight-vegetarians are stakeholders who need this food source. Another big player in this problem are fishermen. Fishermen could lose their jobs because there won't be enough fish in our waters to catch. And yet another stakeholder that is greatly affected by the act of overfishing is fisheries. The problem of overfishing can be solved by limiting the amount of fish that can be caught. People who fish for these endangered fish will have their jobs saved. This will also produce more fish for individuals who have fish as the main food source in their diet. The definition of overfishing is fishing so heavily that the supply of edible fish is depleted. The amount of fish suitable for human consumption in our waters is decreasing due to the problem of overfishing in our world. According to a study conducted by an international team of scientists, by 2048 almost all edible fish in the ocean will disappear (“Go Fish”). This dilemma will affect vegetarians, fishermen and fisheries workers with their food sources, jobs and industries. First, overfishing will have an effect on heavy vegetarians who eat only fish and no other meat, because they will lose their main source of food. protein. Each person in America eats about 16.6 pounds of fish per year; so overfishing doesn't just affect heavy vegetarians, it affects every American (Schmid). “…hundreds of millions of people depend on fish for their livelihood…” (Turan) is a quote from the article “Forget Pirates; fe...... middle of paper ......g form of overfishing used today. It is the action of dragging large nets across the ocean floor trying to collect fish. This act causes disruption of the ocean floor and annoyance of other marine creatures. Dr. Les Watling, professor of zoology at the University of Hawaii, said that “trawling is the most destructive of all actions that humans conduct in the ocean.” (Dr. Watling) Keeping close control on the amount of fish that can be caught will help save many species. While some fishermen may experience the loss of some of their income, in the future this will help fish become easier to catch and more plentiful. In case this solution is used, the fishing sector will increase because fish will become more abundant. The simple solution to this big problem is to limit the amount of fishing that can be done.
