Helps us with our testimony. “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8 ESV). Part of our calling as Christians (as found in the Great Commission) is to go to the ends of the earth to disciple the nations. The Holy Spirit is what gives us the power to do this. Since Jesus is no longer physically present on this planet, we need someone else for our testimony. The Holy Spirit, being God as much as Jesus was God, is the one who helps us bear witness on this earth. Without him we could not spread the Gospel. Without the Holy Spirit sent when Jesus left, the Gospel would not have spread. Christianity would barely last the lifetimes of those who knew it personally. The Holy Spirit helps us say the right words in these situations. “Whatever is given to you in that hour, say; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit" (Mk 13:11). Jesus tells his disciples this when he talks about the end of times. He tells them not to be afraid and to speak openly.
