IntroductionResearch question: The effect of text messaging on students' writing skills at the University of the West Indies. This topic has intrigued the interest of researchers and consequently this proposal will investigate how text messaging affects the writing skills of students attending the University of the West Indies. This topic is really worth studying because of the poor English skills that students are experiencing. I also had a personal experience where, due to texting, my writing skills were negatively affected. English is the accepted language and as undergraduate studies we are expected to have a good command of it. However there are several factors that can influence this. The research would like to find out how SMS affects this, since when we write we write and structure words differently. Some people can't handle the change in when they should write their school assignments because they are familiar with writing in a particular way. This is why the researcher believes that it is worth studying as this will allow us to identify the effect of SMS and see if we can provide possible solutions so that these problems can be alleviated. The terms the researcher wants to identify are Texting, writing skills and learners.
