In this essay, the author witnesses a boy who is bullied by his peers. The author ponders whether he should speak up or follow the other students and simply wait for a teacher. Instead of joining the crowd, Adolfo shouts “enough!” The perpetrator then walks the victim away from all the action and the boy has a huge smile on his face. All the boy could say was "thank you." Empathy isn't just feeling sympathy for the pain of others; it's identifying someone's situation and experiencing the same difficulties. In this example, Adolfo not only witnesses the behavior, but resists the bullying and is compassionate towards the boy's well-being.
