I didn't need to explain the racial profiling; It was something he had dealt with his whole life, along with his father and brothers. At that moment it was clear that I was not like the residents of The Faine House. Our struggles were not the same. These young adults out of foster care are already burdened. The label “adopted child” brings with it its own prejudices, and they too are faced with the labels “African American” or “Black.” My experiences with residents have only made me understand more how complex race and race relations are. I am not a “coconut,” nor can race be seen simply as a black and white issue. Education and dialogue are very necessary in our society and now I see how important it is to make tolerance a big thing
