They were like the Mississippi Italian Mafia, in smuggling, drugs, etc. One night Danny Padgett broke into Rhoda Kassellaw's house and raped her in front of her children. After being raped, Rhoda ran across the street to her neighbors and when they came out she said "it's Danny Padgett" and then died. With the rape and death of Rhoda Kassellaw underway, Willie saw this as a great opportunity to finally create something local. newspaper. Then he took cover of the story. He also took photos of the crime scene and published them on the front page of the newspaper, which wasn't something people did at the time, but Willie didn't care. In addition to covering Rhoda's rape and death, Willie also wrote a one-time... week-long article about a town person. While writing these articles Willie decided he wanted to go to the other side of town, where the blacks live, and write an article about Mrs. Callie Ruffin. Mrs. Callie has nine children, all grown. Eight of them are lawyers, the other, Sam, she never sees because he ran away from town because he was with a white woman, and would never return. After writing about Mrs. Callie, Willie decides to get closer to her. . In the end we will be best friends. He takes her out to the movies, to dinner, always to a black restaurant, so she never feels uncomfortable, and even manages to sneak Sam into town at night so she can see him..
