I chose two films. These two films mark the beginning and end of the era when the world went crazy for fantasy. They are the film versions of the books, which tell the story of Harry Potter becoming an adult. The influence of the books cannot be omitted, but the films brought fame to the saga. "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" is the first film in the series made in 2001. It opens the wizarding world. Many people consider it their favorite. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” is the last film in the Harry Potter saga created in 2011. It focuses on the Battle of Hogwarts. In the plot Harry is facing his destiny to kill Voldemort. Both films are indicative of the entire series. In this essay I will argue that “Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” are culturally and historically significant films. I will show this through the genre's development, influence on society and critical acclaim. The Harry Potter films are obviously not pioneers in the fantasy genre, but it is the film that sparks interest in this area. The decade of films consisting of many parts based on fantasy novels begins. “The Chronicles of Narnia”, “The Hunger Games”, “Twilight”, “The Lord of the Rings”, “The Hobbit” – these are the successful examples. Book series have been proven to be successful when made into movies. The Harry Potter films develop the modern fairy tale genre combined with teenage drama. However, it is interesting that it is not just a children's film.
