What is Human Resource Management? Human resource management (HRM) deals with a wide range of issues, it is difficult to determine the exact definition as it varies from organization to organization. Storey (2007, p. 3) describes it as "two main forms of existence. One is in the form of discourse and academic activity. The other is in the form of practice in organizations." Training and development and team management are important concepts of human resource management, this essay will explore how these two concepts of human resource management contribute to the effectiveness of the organization. Training and DevelopmentPrice (2011, p. 457) states that training is “oriented towards planned development rather than being an isolated activity not linked to the organisation's objectives”. Training is more common than learning in organizations, this is due to the value of its easier measurement. Learning styles are not just one topic, but rather a series of concepts involving modes, preferences, and strategies (Egan, 2013). Learning styles can encourage learning and talent development because they can bring a variety of benefits to a company such as motivation, creativity, increased productivity, and more. On the other hand it is more difficult to measure and see the effects of this process, an investigation report by CIPD consultant McGurk (2013, p. 9) stated that they "have encountered difficulties in testing or measuring the effectiveness of Learning & Talent Development activity". For training and development to be successful for the company, they need to ensure that their learning program covers the company's goals and priorities.
