Reginald Green is the father of a young boy who loved life to the fullest. Adventures together in mythical stories and travels across the world have formed a strong relationship of love and compassion. Reg never thought his baby would leave his life so soon. His death on October 1, 1994, was tragic, but also a turning point in the history of organ donation. Reg Green, Nicholas Green's father, has a choice. He can donate the organs or let Nicholas be buried with them. The events leading up to Nicholas' death weighed heavily on Reg Green's emotions. The car chase and staying in a foreign country took its toll. It aroused emotions such as fear, alienation and drive. Reg Green experienced those emotions countless times before and after Nicholas' death. The Greens, devastated by their position, were willing to donate Nicholas' organs: other families, however, were not. Reg Green never wavered, his mind was set. He wasn't scared by this decision, alienated by the outcome, or driven to make it seem like the situation would get better. He chose to donate his organs. I was scared first on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway; a highway near Sicily. Sicily is known for its petty crimes, but I always thought it had never happened to me. It was a shock when my family and I were targeted. It was late at night, when an old rusty car got closer and closer to ours. I remember quietly saying to myself, “There's something wrong here.” Cars in the fast lane don't go slowly, they pass quickly. This car slowly caught up to our speed in the fast lane. It didn't correspond to the typical Italian motorway overtaking. Now I spoke out loud: "Something is happening."......in the middle of the papers......and gave them new life. His story, The Nicholas Effect, has touched the hearts of millions of people and increased organ donor rates around the world. Nicholas' father Reg Green was right there, what happened to his son was tragic, but the benefits outweighed the negatives. Without Reg, organ donation would not be the standard it is today. Reg Green's emotions of fear, alienation, and drive influenced his choice to donate Nicholas' organs. Without those emotions his choice could have faltered compared to the donation, which is why Reg Green is as important as Nicholas. October 1, 1994 is the day Nicholas died, except Nicholas is still alive. He is also alive in all those seven people to whom he donated organs and Nicholas is alive in all those who donate their organs. Works Cited Green, Reg.
