Topic > Tobago House of Assembly Elections - 1035

IntroductionEthics refers to well-founded standards of right and wrong that prescribe what human beings should do, usually in terms of rights, obligations, benefits to society , fairness, or specific virtues (Velasquez, Andre, Shanks, Meyer, and Meyer 2010). Ethics is also concerned with constructing or developing an ethical standard for oneself. In Tobago, the inter-island governing body is known as the Tobago House of Assembly and elections are held every four years. Tobago uses an electoral system known as “first past the post”. This system is used to ensure that minority interests are taken into account, a high level of participation from the electorate, and to ensure that everyone has an equal say in who governs their affairs (Education Center 2013). The People's National Movement was in power in the THA for twelve years before the January 2013 elections. Politics in the twin-island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago has always been a controversial field, due to questionable business deals undertaken by politicians and the lack of transparency of the personal lives of those who are elected to serve the people. The twelve years since the People's National Movement have not passed without reckless mistakes and accusations of corruption. The following is a list of issues addressed: The controversial Milshirv Project Responsibility for the TT17 billion allocated to them during the twelve years they were in power. They have been accused of misusing funds allocated to them. The delay in completing projects, such as the Scarborough General Hospital and Scarborough Library.Issues behind the January 2013 THA electionsThe accusation of the Tsoi family A Fatt as "PNM family"This controversial issue concerned the Milshirv Project in which... halfway through the document... decision?" The answer to this question is yes. The electorate applied an ethical norm to make their decision and did not vote based on simple whim and fantasy. Contrary to what the opposition believes, the PNM did not win the elections on the basis of race, because the three parties that contested the elections were all of African origin power, was reduced when she asked for help from the People's Partnership.ReferencesEducation Center. 2013. “Democratic Electoral Systems.” Accessed 23 November 2013. http://www.caribbeanelections.com/education/electoral_systems.asp.Alexander, Gail . 2013. “PNM, TOP confident of victory.” Guardian, 21 January.
