During the Cuban Missile Crisis, there were servil actions that the United States of America could have taken to disarm Cuba. However, many people believed that the United States would fire on the Soviet Union from their missile base in Turkey (“BBC History File: Cuban Missile Crisis”). However, this is not what President John F. Kennedy was trying to do. According to Professor John Miglietta, President Kennedy's main goal was to keep missiles out of Cuba. Therefore, launching missiles at the Soviet Union would not demonstrate the resolve of President Kennedy and the United States Army and would create a war instead than a solution to the crisis. By carrying out actions that directly affected the ongoing crisis, and not causing a larger problem, President Kennedy and the US military actually brought a significant portion of the crisis to an end
