Topic > Wireless Charging Overview - 885

Visualize a world where you no longer need to connect a cable to a device. Imagine your car charging itself as you drive to work every day. He dreams of having the life-saving heart pump that powers itself. All these innovative ideas can be possible thanks to the power of inductive charging. Although wireless energy has been around for a few decades, it has only recently started to gain traction in today's world. Whether it's watching your favorite TV show, streaming music from a phone, or using Wi-Fi in your home, most electronic devices are optimized and take advantage of wireless technologies. As time passes, technology transforms into objects that we cannot experience. without. An honorable mention is the use of smartphones. Even though they are called "smart", one thing many have in common is poor battery life. As of November 30, 2012, the top 20 smartphones with the longest life spans averaged 11 hours of battery life (cell phone). While 11 hours seems like enough to last a full day, it doesn't depend on which apps the user uses and for how long. By using wireless charging, an individual no longer needs to connect cables to their gadgets. All you need is a Qi (pronounced chee) compatible device and an inductive wireless charger (Gahran). Although the charger must be plugged into an outlet, a research team known as WiTricity, led by Prof. Marin Soljacic of MIT, is working on a truly wireless way to power a device using magnetic resonance imaging. It is done by transmitting electricity through a batch of conductive coils. By the end of the decade, people will be able to charge their devices by walking into a room using the WiTricity cable… middle of paper… Amy. “Will the new charging standard help cut power cords?” Discussion group.
